4 Sweet Sisters

The girls are begging me to post. I've got nothing, nada , zip, zilch... We have been hitting the new school year hard and I feel that's all I know how to talk about. I could talk about my reasons for liking a mixture of text books and unit studies. If you don't homeschool you may be bored out of your gourd! On that subject (not gourds), learning is changing in our home. We (they) are digging deeper to learn and having to find a lot more on their own this year. I want as much of it to stick as possible and have a bit of fun while doing it. We are working out the kinks of Tapestry and really enjoying Spelling Power/English from the Roots/English. Okay, I'm really enjoying them. And you know the old saying, "If momma ain't happy ain't no body happy". The weather (oh how boring) is cooling off a bit (low 80's) for evening. Well it's been extremely busy around here. Between 2 birthdays, Christmas, New Years and various other things..... I'm tuckered out. I was gonna say pooped, but I didn't want to gross anyone out! Birthday #1. She's just to cute and pictures just can't capture all her amazing qualities. Her dream... to be a farmer's wife and raise horses and any other type of animal you can think of! Happy birthday cutie. Birthday #2 We interrupt this birthday... It's also 4-H day. Look what cutie #2 pulled out of her patch in January! It weighed in a 14 pounds 4 ounces!!!!! That should keep my chickadees happy for a day or so. You just can't see how really big this is. I know lots of you probably experience this every summer, but this is are 2 nd go at it. Well, today we go and set up our 4-H gardens. No One is excited about it being 92 degrees... I'm so glad our home garden is ready to go! We just need to get those temps back down into the mid 80's. Yes, I mean no I haven't posted picks yet. I wanted to do it one post. Maybe I should split it up? What do you think??? I have started some seeds inside to get a jump on it. We should be Harvesting at the end of December ( like there won't be enough to do)! Back to 4-H! My oldest check has been working very hard on the website for our club and plans to publish it today or tomorrow, once she gets the okay. I'll pop up the site once it's official! Our local 4-H is also selling bushels of apples and pecans! This how we Floridians get our apples every year. Oh, I long to taste fall.... the apples are so crisp and juicy. Hey it's Works for Me Wednesday @ Rocks in My Dryer (check my side bar)! Helloooo . How is everyone this fine morning? I wanted to share a "new family secret" we made. It's calendula cream. It's good for what ails ya! Okay, not everything but certainly a lot of things... Any sort of bite or sting, heat or diaper rash, burns, and a great moisturizer! One of our chick's decided to plant it in her garden last fall. We harvest the leaves and flowers from the plant, then stew them down for a couple of days in organic coconut oil. Add a little beeswax and a pretty can. Wallah ! A wonderful cream for itchy skin. We keep ours in the fridge to preserve the life of the product. It usually last between 8 months and a year. It feels great going on. I've even used it in place of deodorant for a couple of days due to very dry skin. (I've tried all the " odorent " but they all tend to make me itchy after awhile- even the homemade baking soda kind) Sorr...

I'm not the most computer savvy mom out there, but I am learning.....or at least willing! It's Frugal Friday over at Biblicalwomanhood.com. My big tip of the week is: If you've never gardened or have and had trouble with your past adventures (that's us) join your local 4-H gardening club! We live in the south, so this garden time for us! We have had such an abundance of spinach, eggplants and tomatoes. My girls are getting a bit tired of all the eggplant dinners! But I digress... In our area it is $10 per child, per year to join 4-H. Each child (ages 5-18) receives a 12x12 plot to work, all the seeds and plants, and wonderful help from the master gardeners! We help out quite a bit and we (the parents) will get our own plot for the spring! Only 3 of 4 sweeties can have a plot at this time. So that's 4 - 12x12 plot's for our family.
