Thankful Thursday

Thank you Lord..........................for.

Restoring my health so quickly.
A taste of cool autumn air.
A husband that only You could pick.
A 1 year breakage warranty on 3 week old glasses.
Fresh vegetables and fruit.
Forgiveness.
Four crazy, beautiful daughters.
Being patient with me.
Floss.
Teaching me patience and perseverance.........

Lord, I praise your Holy and Righteous name, Father. Teach me your ways, O Lord. Keep me on the path you have placed before me.

A Tasty Treat?

Don't these coconut raspberry tarts look Delicious?

Okay, I know I can't fool you! We made these Fires Starters the other night. We actually had everything on hand.... so it was free (ha ha). Oh sooo Frugal (it's frugal friday ya know)!

We used:
Gulf wax and old candles of varying scents
Lightered pine shaving from our big tree (that partially fell on our car a couple years back)
Garden twine
Muffin papers from the thrift store
Muffin tins (preferably old ones)

While Superman cut wood the girls and I set to work. We packed the shavings into the muffin papers and added the twine wick between the layers. Then I poured on the melted wax. I'm sure they'll be good enough for me to get a fire started! Superman doesn't need them...he's a Super Hero remember!

Here's one of our chicks loading logs.

And another stacking.

I know it's crazy for where we live, but we do get many nights in the low 40's to upper 30's and having a fireplace makes it oh so cozy. I can remember many a night where one of our we chicks would fall asleep on Superman while gazing at the fire. But right now it's still in the 90's and I keep thinking we're nuts! Are we turning into Urban Homesteaders?
Okay some other ideas for fire starters. I have many foil tins (small) in different shapes. It would be fun to make heart ones or even dip some pine cones in cinnamon wax and bundle them as a hostess gift.
Or better yet add a couple of logs to make a gift basket, with a bottle of whatever you like (non-alcoholic, fancy soda, wine, etc). Don't forget to add some popcorn, cookies, or chocolate! Give as a Christmas gift, house warming, hostess gift, or a Romantic date night (for friend with wee ones or anyone who needs a relaxation) . What a great surprise that would be!
Well I need to get back to it! My little chef is measuring the chair (ninety-eighty long) and now my brain (it's ninety, by the way) "Oh, so cerebral" chick #3 would say!
Checkout more great and thrifty ideas over a Biblical Womanhood tomorrow. I'm just a bit early this week!

Song in head: I'd like to check you for ticks.... (don't judge, I'm already doing that to myself!!! It just sticks in your head.....)

Sweet Taters!

Look at the size of this sweet potato!!! (Don't look at me, I needed a nap). I got about half way through the peeling process when Superman asked if I gotten a pic. I would be remiss if I didn't tell you that HE was the one who dug it up.

This is what we made from it. Notice in the above picture that Superman got out the fire extinguisher! What is he trying to say?

Then the chicks wanted to make fries. We were all craving a bit of salt and fried food. I think it's been over a month and a half since we've been to Chick -fil- a.It was all so tasty. We have more taters so I think we'll have a sticky chicken and sweet tater dinner this week. Then I'll put the fryer away for another 2 years!

On the same day . Many of us were in the kitchen when Hawk Nelson (our neighborhood hawk) started zooming in a flying sort of way around our oak tree. Then we saw the fuzzy little squirrel he was hoping to have for Sunday brunch. It was amazing to watch the drama play out.

My little chicks were not happy at all. Superman wanted to help Hawk by...well never mind. And I wasn't sure I wanted to see the poor little thing mangled before our eyes. But we watched on for a good 8 minutes. It was wondrous to see Hawk fly in almost slow motion around the tree branches and the little squirrel hide on the underside of the limbs, hoping to fool Hawk.

Hawk never caught the thing. He must have decided it wasn't worth his time and effort because he went to another tree and watched the little guy come out and run off.

Later when we were frying the taters I saw a little squirrel squawking like the owned the whole backyard. Better watch out!

It reminded me yet again of how pride goes before a fall...

4-H and Sausage?

Well, today we go and set up our 4-H gardens. No One is excited about it being 92 degrees... I'm so glad our home garden is ready to go! We just need to get those temps back down into the mid 80's. Yes, I mean no I haven't posted picks yet. I wanted to do it one post. Maybe I should split it up?

What do you think???
I have started some seeds inside to get a jump on it. We should be Harvesting at the end of December ( like there won't be enough to do)!

Back to 4-H! My oldest check has been working very hard on the website for our club and plans to publish it today or tomorrow, once she gets the okay. I'll pop up the site once it's official!

Our local 4-H is also selling bushels of apples and pecans! This how we Floridians get our apples every year. Oh, I long to taste fall.... the apples are so crisp and juicy. Check your local 4-H to see if they have any sort of yummy fundraisers. It's a tasteful (I couldn't resist) way to help out!

4 Sweet Sisters will be taking orders for their Fabulous (if I do say so myself) Pumpkin Bread in October! Also a great opportunity to pick up our Freshly Ground Whole Grain Cookie Mixes.

In other news: I highly recommend the Financial Peace for Teens. We are on week 7 and getting into budgeting and checkbook keeping tonight.

So I'm "team" making cookies for tonight with my 2 eldest chicks and looking up recipes for Homemade Italian Sausage.
Pretty simple. I'll be using ground turkey (99 cents a pound) in place of pork. I won't be shooting it into tubes etc. It's so economical and I know what my family is eating! It's great in white bean soups, pizza, sauce etc. Yummy! I've REALLY been craving meat lately.
Does anyone have camera they really would recommend? I'm in need of a new one. I want one that recovers from a flash quickly and writes quick. All for under $200.

P.O.O.P.I.E

People Opposing Objectionable Pretend plants in the Environment! Okay folks it's been a week....which is way too long. Schooling 3 1/2 is a bit daunting at times. My other excuse.....I've been freaking out about lice for over a week. No, I didn't have it (this time around), but I've scratched myself raw over it!

On to P.O.O.P.I.E.! Over at Nestor's she's done a short series on what's a good fake and what's not (errr flowers that is). So after you take a peak at mine head over there and read hers and everyone else' poop (can I say that?), I mean blogs! Nesting Place is in my side bar if you need directions ( I wanted to put the button up, but have no clue).

These are my year round fakies.... Superman gave me the floral arrangement about 12 years ago when we couldn't afford flowers, who am I kidding....we still can't! I did change out the pedestal urn they came in.

My wonderful ivy on top of the cabinets. My chicks have always hated this look. Yes, there is dust...

On to fall fakies... I really like color! It's still 90 something degrees out, my flimsy excuse?

The chickadees really like this one. It looks pretty when its lit.

The corn is REAL!

Now on to the outside! Okay, lets remember that fall doesn't start here until December. No kidding! The humidity does go down a bit and we have evenings in the 60's in November. So we are faking it until the season makes it.

The front porch

My fake pumpkin. I repainted it this year. If this was real it would be GROSS in a couple of days. Yucko!

Yup. More Fakies.

I know REALLY tacky. I'm looking for some type of candle holder that has more of a presence.

So I would like to say that I'm a P.O.O.P.I.E. but I think I have a ways to go!

I wish I new how to do a go here type of thing. I mistreated my laundry room curtains!!

Sing Praises All Servants!

I've been meaning to share this for awhile... Every year I pray and ask the Lord to show me where we need to strengthen. I've been trying for years....I mean YEARS to have a regular praise and worship time with Bible. Not just learning Bible history, but a topical study, personal prayer and music...

Well so far so good. We've been starting our days with a great hymn sing along. It comes with a book and Cd's with all the parts played separately and together. Can I just say, I don't know what ever made me think I could be a music teacher and vocal major! We (meaning myself and brood) sound like a bunch of a cackling hens being pulled through chicken wire by a raccoon! We start out fine and then go higher and higher. We crack each other up! I hope were aren't offensive....He knows our hearts, but sometimes we're BAD (and I don't mean good). The title is: Home Discipleship Hymnbook.

After that we pray with the Little's and read a scripture with a story. Then the chef works on a coloring page while the next oldest copies the scripture and draws a picture that goes with the story.

While they are doing that the 2 oldest chickadees and I are going through Raising Maidens of Virtue. We also each have a prayer journal that they are learning to use and make their own. Some days we just read scripture and pray if we are feeling led to.

So that's it. I'm so grateful to be doing it. The music is a extra nice blessing..........don't be looking for our CD anytime soon!

Praise Him. Praise Him all you little children..... song in my head.
