Hard Boiled Eggs

Hello! I had hoped to post this week about our adventure to IKEA, but life is happening and I can't/don't want to miss out on it! I hope to be posting later next week. But for now, let me leave you with this funny little tale that is going around the pool ...

It has been reported (by local media) that Farmer's are feeding their chickens ice chips to keep their eggs from hard boiling!

Have a great day and see you soon!

Rambling for sure...

I'm having a cranky day... I'm not joyously tackling my jobs. Anyone else had a day like that?

Well, after being short with every single one of my daughters and then apologizing (to some). You would have thought I'd changed my tune. Unfortunately no.

I was driving back from Urban Girl's work when I noticed the sign of a local church. I see this sign regularly and know the name of the church. Today I took a quick glimpse and read Price Of Peace. Huh? I did a double take. Oh, Prince of Peace.

Anyone ever been disciplined like that? Price of Peace. hmmmm. The price was dearly paid for today. My children think I'm an ogre of a Mom (and I was acting like one). Thank you Lord for my little wake up call....

I wish I had deeper words of wisdom or wonderful scripture to spill forth, but all that keeps coming to mind is. Slow down and do all with a joyous heart.

As Promised

Okay, as promised here are the disturbing photos.....

Doesn't look to bad does it? This area ALWAYS piles up.

Here's the actual closet where I keep this year's curriculum. Stuff I really don't want touched goes on the upper shelves.

Here's some books......... Sorry about the pictures, I did it quick and it was painful!

And here's 1 cabinets worth of books out in the living room....... Believe me it looks even worse in real life :0

So here's the plan:

1. Wednesday- haul out all books and go through them. (give, keep, throw or craft away)

2. Thursday- clean out all curriculum. (sell, give, keep)

3. Friday- IKEA Day! We've never been so it should be fun! ( at least for Grammy and me)

Finalize room changes with Superman. Maybe even get some things moved around. (i have a plan drawn up on paper- we may need to make 1 shelf and a make shift work station)

4. Saturday and Monday- re categorize everything and put into place.

So that's it. I like the wall color so that stays. It could use some touch up, but I think I'll let it slide. There's to many other things that need more attention. I still have 1 child finishing up a course or two so I really can't close everything out. I think I'll pop all of this past years work into a big basket or 2 and save to another week.

The plan I have drawn will give us a bit more usable space, but I don't know if it will be as pleasing to the eye. This room has really never been that way for more than a day.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly thought of! I loved to hear from you ;)

Pondering or Rambling?

*********Oh the Horror! I'll be posting the pictures as soon as my battery charges.**********

I'm sitting here in our School / Computer/ Office/ Library/ Musical Instrument Room and well......... I just don't know how to control this room. I'm constantly freaking out, yelling, crying over this 11x10 space.

I've tried going with the flow. I've used every organizational skill known to woman kind. This space is just not working. At times all 6 of us gather in this small space. It holds 4 large cabinets, 3 computers, a dining room table, 5 to 6 chairs, and an encyclopedia cabinet.

I need to haul it out yet again. Put away the past year and get ready for the new one. As you can see I'm not doing what I should be doing.... Anyone want to come and help me? I'm REALLY Serious.

On to happier thoughts... Summer has become so crazy! It's great, but I haven't adjusted to our schedule. We all are involved in some sort of swimming from 8:30 until 10:30. By the time we get home it's time to start lunch and get Urban Girl off to work. So from 1pm until 4pm I have got time to get everyone involved in some sort of project, reading or school assignment. Then I need to have dinner started and do my list of jobs. Such as the wonderful ROOM I mentioned above. I'm really happy we're all exercising and taking a break from the regular. I just don't know how to fit in the other stuff I still need to do.

I'm pooped! Betty Lou and the other Water Aerobics Instructors are killing me. ( My body is feeling better). So wonderful things are happening, but I'm having trouble switching those gears!

Speaking of switching gears. A couple of weeks ago I took our little girls to the thrift stores. On our way home we saw a person selling sheets; out of a van, in a gas station parking lot. (You know like the set ups you see for rugs on the side of the road.) Well, I got a really good laugh. Sheets! Who had ever heard of such a thing! I told Superman, who in turn thought it was pretty amusing.

Well, this past weekend I was doing a couple of errands when I saw another person at a gas station selling sheets. 600 thread count! Yeah right. Well, I don't know what made me do it, but I switched lanes and pulled in. (I just don't do that sort of thing) I kept telling myself you buy veggies this way occasionally. Just check it out. It's probably a scam.

I took a looksie. This how the story goes from the Sales Lady. They had just closed down their furniture store showroom and had started an online store (she gave me a card for said online store). The sheet sets were a promo they had been running at the store and were getting rid of them. They were supposed to be 600 thread count but the manufacturer sent 800 thread count Egyptian Cotton. A set of king sheets with 4 pillowcases (actually all the sizes) were $20 dollars a set!

$20 a set. I can't get sheets for that price at Wally World. I felt them. They were OOOhhh so nice. I had grocery money burning a hole in my pocket, it has been 8 years since we bought sheets and it was date night! Wouldn't Superman like some luxurious new sheets? I bought them ;)

When I got home Superman was covered in dirt (no way was he getting close to my luxury). He was a bit dumbfounded that I had actually bought sheets from a Roadside Vendor (hey, you have to keep the mystery alive)! I took them right in and washed them in my new friends and laid them on the bed. Ahhhhhhh. Luxury.

They are a bit thinner than Bed, Bath and Beyond but well worth it and ohhh so soft!

What crazy things have you bought on the side of the road?????
Anyone care to help with my room????

Cramming

Lookie, what I did tonight. I CRAMMED my bod into a modest, yet uncomfortably snug bathing suit. Marched myself down (okay, a girlfriend picked me up) to our community center and took a water aerobics class! (I couldn't have done it without you Debbie! I needed you by my side and your accountability to get my bathing suit clad body down there.)
(that's me in the floral number, bottom right)

We had a great time exercising and not sweating a drop! The girls in the Zumba class (inside the air conditioned center) had nothing on us. We were working just as hard...

Oh ladies, what you are missing out on!

Seriously, we were the youngest in the group. But they accepted us with love and made us get right to work! You see the buoy looking thingies up there. Man, do your arms hurt after a couple of reps with those babies ;) And I never knew there were so many exercises you could do with a noodle. I need to get me one and a pool to go with it. heeheehee

If I could do this year round and inexpensively, I would. I even had visions of becoming the Instructor! Wouldn't that be a hoot!

I know I'm using up my quota of !!!!! but it was fun and I can't wait to go back!

P.S. That picture wasn't taken at class tonight and that's not me ;)

Onion Dip

Does anyone remember me talking about my onion woes? Well here is something tasty we do with the tips! When the onions are 1st pulled we take a bunch of them and cut and clean all the greens. I then chop them up and put them in my American Harvester Dehydrator that my parents gave me 16 years ago! (as you can tell I like this machine)

Here's what they look like when they are done. Now they are ready for soups, biscuits, dips, you name it.

So now I'm ready to make onion dip. Use 1/4 to 1/3 cup of green onions (really to taste).
Place them in your coffee grinder and give it a whirl. Add salt and pepper to taste and give another whirl!

Mix in about 2 cups of your favorite sour cream or yogurt. Let stand in the refrigerator for about an hour.
Dip in your favorite veggies!

Yummy!

We do this with dill also!

Check out more frugal ideas over at Life As Mom!

What are some of your favorite dips?
