Frugal Friday

First let me say, "I need blog friends!", and I'm not ashamed to beg for them! So if your interested leave a comment. I really like commenting back! Also I need some friends for my side bar! Help!

Today at Biblical Womanhood, Crystal has been talking about her grandfather. So in honor of that here is my re purpose tip! We have been hang drying our clothes inside for about a month. Because our house is for sale and we thought a clothes line may detract from it. So all has been going well (except for the hanger bumps in shirts). Well I needed a place to store hangers. My mom has a fancy hanger holder which is the same design as mine. Only hers is plastic and was made for the job intended. Well guess what mine is? It's the bottom portion of my Pasta Rack! (Remember years ago when we were all making fresh homemade pasta.......that was 3 chicks ago) It works beautifully and is made of oak (i think) WOW!
Here it is without the hangers...in case you were wondering.

The portion of the rack that was for drying pasta now holds drying water bottles! There's enough room for 4 water bottles and we have 4 chickadees!

Another tip I have is customize your laundry soap. I played with the recipes online and made up ours which works better than Tide or Ecos and cost pennies to make (our opinion).

Also I time our laundry that is in dryer ie. sock, underwear. I take them out when they are warm and ever so slightly humid. The heat from them finishes the drying of them while I'm folding.
Also, I found 12 hanger packs (used) at the thirft store for 50 cents. Better quality and 1/2 of what I paid at Walmart. We seem to damage hangers.Hmmmmmm.
So if you wanna be my bloggy friend, comment. I'll comment back.

I will be your bloggy friend, LOL! :) I have a lot of fun meeting new people through blogging. I am the oldest of four girls, so I can relate to your family!

And your hanger rack is great! I have long "arms" on the wire shelving in my laundry room, so I keep mine there- kids' hangers on one, adults' on the other.

Here's another bloggy friend! My name is Lori! I came here via Biblical Womanhood - I'm interested in your whole wheat chocolate chip cookie recipe, if you would be willing to share it. I grind my own whole wheat flour and haven't found a recipe that goes well. Thanks and look forward to reading more as time permits!

I'll be your bloggy friend, too! I love making new friends. You have some great frugal ideas, by the way! Our dryer just died a few days ago, I had clothing lying all over our basement. I plan to get a drying rack and see if I can do without.

You made your own pasta? I'm so impressed. So... repurposing items is one of my favorite things. Great creative use of what you already have. Keep it up!

I'm glad you stopped by my blog-home today. Hope you can visit often!

P.O.O.P.I.E

People Opposing Objectionable Pretend plants in the Environment ! Okay folks it's been a week....which is way too long. Schooling 3 1/2 is a bit daunting at times. My other excuse.....I've been freaking out about lice for over a week. No, I didn't have it (this time around), but I've scratched myself raw over it! On to P.O.O.P.I.E.! Over at Nestor's she's done a short series on what's a good fake and what's not ( errr flowers that is). So after you take a peak at mine head over there and read hers and everyone else' poop (can I say that?), I mean blogs! Nesting Place is in my side bar if you need directions ( I wanted to put the button up, but have no clue). These are my year round fakies .... Superman gave me the floral arrangement about 12 years ago when we couldn't afford flowers, who am I kidding....we still can't! I did change out the pedestal urn they came in. My wonderful ivy on top of the cabinets. My chicks have always ha...

Facial Cleanser

We've been using a surprisingly wonderful face wash for about 6 months. Guess What it is? Olive & Castor Oil! I was really surprised at how well it works and you can customize the formula to you own needs. For people with T-zone, dry or oily conditions. At www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/ they give all the details. I used an old facial cleanser bottle and tweaked the instructions to fit our needs. -15% Castor oil -85% olive oil -Shake and place in shower with wash cloth. - Gently rub 1 to 2 pumpfuls into face, neck, ears etc. (before you get in) -Use the warmth of shower to open pores. -Heat wash cloth with water, place on face for a minute or so. Then gently rub off excess oil, make up and dirt. Like I said, we've been using this for 6 months or so. In that time I've had only 1 blemish ( I'm a t-zone). My face is so much smoother and softer and this is all I do. No more 3 parts, no extra lotions! The above recipe has worked well for dry and t-zone. So we only h...

Nitrate Free Pepperoni

I'm not sure if I should show you the picture or not. I tweaked a recipe from Tammy's Recipes and it is quite tasty. BUT (and it's kind of a big BUT) the color is just not right. So the pepperoni looks a little grey (gross) but again taste SUPER! So here goes nothing.... nitrate free pepperoni See how gray it looks? That's because I used Real Salt (sea salt) instead of curring salts which have all the nitrates and fake pink color (they do this so people won't mistake it for table salt). That pink dye also gives sausages of all types that nice color we are all so used too. All the flavor was still in there and I figured if I'm making this homemade I want it to be as healthy as possible for my family. So why would I add the nitrates? Because I didn't use the pink salt I can't just leave this out in my pantry like you could with some of the store bought stuff. If you do to try this recipe and decide to go "all natural" please make sure that you ...
